Thiesen Electronics NAV/STROBE/POSITION and Rear-facing Tail light with FLARM interface. (EPTA-NG)

Combination of Position Light, Tail Light and Anti Collision Light with FLARM-Interface

In the event of detecting an aircraft on a potential collision course, a connected PowerFLARM unit accelerates the flashing sequence of the EPTA-NG according to the FLARM alert level. This makes your aircraft more conspicuous and therefore helps to increase the safety in the airspace.

The new LED technology allows an incredibly brilliant red and green position lights with only 10% of the input power consumption compared with conventional lights.

The electronics are entirely encased in high optical plastic - which not only looks amazing, but it makes the EPTA absolutely insensitive to vibrations, water, dust and other environmental influences.

The EPTA-NG is provided with an internal overload protection. In case of over voltage the protector switches the EPTA-NG off. When the voltage drops or the EPTA is reset by disconnecting from the power supply the light is fully functional again. The overload protection will be activated by exceeding 17 V DC.

To make installation easy, the EPTA-NG wing tip lights are pre-wired.  They are easy to mount with screws and coloured silicone. For a quick and easy conversion from xenon flashes to our EPTA lights there is a conversion adapter available.

All systems are integrated into the light units so there is no need for external controllers, power conditioners, or power supplies. This can provide a significant savings of weight, complexity, and cost.

FLARM-Interface

With this interface (19.200 Baud, 8 Bit, No Parity, 1 Stop-Bit) a connected Power-FLARM unit (sold separately by other suppliers) can send the emergency levels 0 – 3 to the EPTA-NG and thus regulate the flash sequences of the lights. This increases the visibility of your aircraft in flight significantly and can help to prevent a collision.  PLEASE NOTE: You will need to purchase an additional 'Power-FLARM' unit to operate the FLARM functionality.  Swish Projects does not supply these units.  The FLARM unit duplicates most functionality that you would get from the Levil ADSB-In feature, but adds the additional flashing light function.

Intelligent Synchronization

Our developed "Intelligent Synchronization" schedules the light pulses so there is no overlap of the individual lighting flashes. This ingenious pulse shifting reduces the battery and generator requirements as there is only one light on at any given moment. It prevents battery and generator from becoming overloaded.

Thiesen Electronics L.E.D. Red Aircraft Rotating Beacon 2 (ERB2)

Electronic Rotating Beacon 2 - Our new development with Intelligent Synchronization and FLARM-Interface

The technology carries on - so we developed the new ERB2 for you. With LEDs of the newest generation we were able to boost the brightness of about 25%. Simultaneously we reduced the power consumption remarkably. This makes an efficiency enhancement of about 50%!

As worlds first we integrated a FLARM-Interface in an anti collision light for motorized aircraft in order to increase the visibility and therefore the safety in the airspace. The  Power-FLARM unit provided signals increase the light pulses of the ERB2 and therefore rises the attentiveness.  PLEASE NOTE: You will need to purchase an additional 'Power-FLARM' unit to operate the FLARM functionality.  Swish Projects does not supply these units.  The Power-FLARM unit duplicates most functionality that you would get from the Levil ADSB-In feature, but adds the additional flashing light function.

As a matter of course all our LED position lights / ACLs are water and seawater resistant. Since the electronic parts are completely integrated in the ERB2, no black box or other items are needed.

Our ERB2 complies with FAR23 regulations. Therefore experimantal constructors have a genuine alternative to Xenon-Flash lights.

The extremely bright, red rotating sequencing light flash has a beacon angle of 360° and is visible at 30° below and above the horizontal plane.

Like all our other ACLs, the ERB2 is completely sealed in high grade optic plastic. As all electronic components are in the ERB, there is no additional place needed.

For easy connection, the ERB2 is already provided with a 1,5/0,25 mm² four-wire-cable. It can be installed on the fuselage or tail by its flange footing and some additional silicone.

A detailed installation instruction and shrinking tubes are included.

FLARM-Interface

As worlds first we integrated a FLARM-Interface in an anti collision light for motorized aircraft in order to increase the visibility and therefore the safety in the airspace. The by the Power-FLARM unit provided signals increase the light pulses and therefore rises the attentiveness.  SOLD SEPARATELY - the 'FLARM' functionality of the lights will not be work unless you choose to purchase an additional little unit (called a 'Power-FLARM').

Intelligent Synchronization

The integration of our well proven Intelligent Synchronization allows a chronological sequence of power consumption for the connected anti collision lights and prevents battery and generator from becoming overloaded.

Thiesen Electronics Landing Light - ELL50

When used in combination with another Thiesen Electronic Landing Light 50 and the ILC (Intelligent Lighting Circuit) unit (both sold separately), your Electronic Landing Light 50 can be operated in any one of FOUR modes: Both OFF, as another strobe unit, as a pair of 'STEADY WHITE' landing lights, or as a set of alternating flashing white recognition lights (1 second illumination per side wig-wag's).  The recognition pattern greatly increases your visibility and has been shown in airliner studies to reduce the incidence of birdstrikes during all phases of flight.  I have wig-wags in my aircraft and they're always on whenever I am flying.  After I have landed I am regularly told that they could see my 'lights flashing from miles away'.  This feature works.

Be sure to select '2' in the quantity window if you want two lights, and also if you want the wig-wag capability.  For wig-wag, you'll need the additional ILC.

This video shows the similar ELL60 that demonstrates the 'strobe' and 'steady on' modes.

Thiesen Electronics Landing Light - ELL60

The landing light ELL60 is the logical evolution of ELL50 with even more power.

Despite its small size (diameter 60 mm) this headlight has an input power of 60 watts, which corresponds to a usual halogen headlight of 180 - 200 watts.

Thiesen Electronics ILC - Intelligent Lighting Circuit

Intelligent Synchronization

With the new ILC, for the first time it is possible to control two of our landing lights intelligently and preserving the battery at the same time.

The electronics of the ILC is completely sealed so that it is protected from moisture and vibration. Both our ELL50 with 30 W input power, as well as our ELL60 can be driven with 60 Watt input power.

The special feature of ILC is that it manages the Anti-Collision Light function of the landing lights as well as the Alternate Mode with its intelligent synchronization.

With our ILC two landing lights can be controlled in three different modes:

ACL mode: Here the two headlights are operated in the ACL (strobe) mode and are synchronized so that the battery (generator) is relieved by the best possible way "Intelligent Synchronization".

Alt mode:
In the "Alternate Mode" the two landing lights are alternating in a wig-wag style with a 1 second rhythm.

CB mode: In the landing light mode, both landing lights are switched on.

'AeroLED' L.E.D. NAV/STROBE/POSITION Light Kit

I recommend lighting.  It greatly assists other pilots and Air Traffic Control when they are looking for you and is a known safety improvement.  If you are going to install lighting - then please make it L.E.D. lighting. I will not supply anything else.

With conventional lighting (or ‘legacy systems’), the light output varies with the input voltage, which decreases dramatically at low engine power settings, thus making the landing lights too dim during the final segments of the landing procedure. LEDs allow consistent light output at various voltage levels.  They draw less power, they produce a true white light, they come on instantly, they don't produce as much heat and they last for ever.  Don't waste your money on old tech lights.

CH650B and CH750 CRUZER 'AeroLED' LED Landing Light Kit

PLEASE NOTE:  This is the price for a SINGLE light to go in one of your two wings.  In other words, only one light.  I have priced these as individual lights as most builders will not ever fly at night – but they may like the option of a wing-mounted taxi light or to enhance in-flight visibility.

Order 2 if you want to have a light on each side of the aircraft.  These can then be selected to ‘both on’ or synchronized for high visibility ‘wig-wag’ recognition lights.

CH650B Dual Control Sticks Option

This options replaces the standard 'Y' center stick with dual control sticks.

I have the standard 'Y' in my 750 and I quite like it.  You get used to it very quickly and it makes getting in and out of the aircraft easier.

One benefit, I think, of the dual controls would be the opportunity to replace the 'push/pull' style of throttle control with a 'T-bar' style throttle quadrant.  The quadrant would sit in the position that is used by the Standard 'Y' and could be used from both seats.  I find the position of the 'push/pull' throttle handle less than ideal as when it is pulled out (idle and when shut down) it is easy to bump with your knee.

On the downside, dual controls add expense, complexity and weight.

CH650B Tail Dragger Kit Option

For tail-wheel buffs, the tail-dragger gear option replaces the standard tricycle gear, and comes with 6.00 x 6 wheel upgrade.

CH650B Long Range Fuel Tank Option

The standard tanks when combined with the speed an on-airport bias of the 650 design work well enough for most people.  For myself though, more is better.  I'd always get the long-range tanks.

Also, when combined with either of the Viking FWF kits - you will also get another 6L of useable fuel with the included small header tank.

All up, your new fuel capacity will go from 90 liters (standard; without the Viking FWF) to 118 liters (including the header tank).  The extra 28 liters is pretty close to an extra 1.5 hours of flight time.

CH650B Wing Baggage Locker Kit Option

Located inside the wing (behind the spar), the optional Wing Baggage Locker increases “carry-on luggage” space with dual wing baggage lockers.  Each locker measures approx. 19″ (48 cm.) x 16″ (40.5 cm.) x 9″ (23 cm.) tall.  Sold as a SET.

I am told that even though they are very difficult to get to in-flight, the wing baggage locker kit is about the most useful upgrade you can get for your CH650B.  Great for carrying tie-downs, tools, jackets - anything really.  For the price - you're mad if you don't get them.

CH650B Recessed Electric Aileron Trim Tab Kit Option

Recessed tab located in the left aileron. Electric motor actuation, with push-button control and position indicator.

I feel like you could go either way with this option.  If you buy the Viking FWF then your tanks will generally drain equally and you will not have too many asymmetric weight problems to over come with control input.  Even so, you will sometimes be flying with passengers and your aircraft static trim is only ever good at one speed.

My advice - if you have a little bit of cash still left then this is a good idea.  You will certainly never regret putting it in if you have it - you may regret it if you don't.

You already have the elevator trim (included as standard in your CH650B kit).  Keep the supplied indicators but ditch the panel-mounted buttons for the nice control-stick buttons pictured.  The control stick is not included in this kit, nor do Zenith or Swish Projects supply it - you can find it from SkyShop.  Tell Rod that James says hello!

CH650B Wheel Fairings Kit

New thinner fiberglass wheel fairings increase aerodynamics, and give the aircraft a sleeker look. (For tricycle gear configuration, 5.00×5 wheels).

These absolutely deliver a performance benefit that can be seen.  In my opinion, they are a very good value addition to your kit.  They are fine for grass and other smooth surfaces - but may not survive if tested on rough fields.

Available as a retro fit and these fairings are easy enough to remove if you like.  They are not compatible with the Tail Dragger Kit Upgrade due to the larger tyres supplied with that kit.

Skytek Center Console Kit

The Skytek center console kit comes pre-drilled to accommodate a range or switches, fuel selector, circuit breakers and your cabin heater.  Any holes that you don't use can be easily blanked out with a plastic or rubber grommet (not supplied).

It is supplied in raw aluminium.

Please purchase EITHER the Skytek or the Zenith Center Console kit - not both.

Skytek Cowling Access Door & Install Kit

The Cowling Access Door and Install Kit gives you a great way of accessing any part of your engine without having to remove the full cowls.  Use over the oil dipstick, the coolant bottle or anywhere else that you need convenient access.

You just have to turn the winged 1/4 turn fastener and the little door pops straight open.

Retrofit to any aircraft, any engine, any material (fiberglass, carbon and aluminium).

Zenith Center Console Kit

Center console option mounts below the panel; approx. 4.75″ (12 cm) wide.

It is supplied in raw aluminium.

Brilliant for covering and protecting the fuel lines, control cables and brake lines that run through the cockpit.  The console is also an excellent place to install smaller items such as your ignition key and engine switches.

Viking Cabin Heater Option

Skytek Steering Rod Swivels Assembly Kit

The Steering Rod Swivels Assembly Kit seals your steering control rods from your engine compartment, reducing the risk of fumes in the cockpit. If you want easy sliding of your control rods and don't want any binding and scraping then this one’s for you. No riveting required if installed during your aircraft's initial assembly of firewall but all the fasteners are there for those of you that have already gone past that stage. This kit works on all of the the Zenith 750 range.

Towbar Kit

These are very handy and work well.  They extend telescopically so they are compact enough to fly with if you ever want to do that.

The only problem with this option is that Zenith suggest you drill through your front strut (see photo) to insert the tow bar.

Check out the linked 'Skytek Towbar Attachment Bracket' for a cheap and easy to install option that does not need you to drill through the gear leg.  I have this on my 750 and it's brilliant.  It took me about 5 minutes to install as a retro-fit.

Cortec VpCI-373 Clear

Cortec VpCI-373 is the corrosion inhibitor that is recommended by Zenith.  It is a very nice product to use, as it is non-toxic and goes on just like PVA Glue (the white wood glue that comes in bottles).  Apply with a brush or small sponge just before final assembly and the Cortec will forever prevent any vapor or particles entering into the small gaps between your riveted parts.  Keeps out microscopic salts and other corrosive airborne particulates.

Unfortunately, it is insanely expensive and the smallest unit size is a 19 Liter drum.  I pay $980 for the drum, and this 19L drum is in concentrate form so it's enough to build about 30 aircraft.  You definitely don't need much.  Probably about 2 Liters is all you need.

I supply your Cortec in ready-to-use format with instructions and a Safety Data Sheet.  You are paying for 1 Litre and the price includes postage within Australia.

Cowling Hinge and Pin Set

Most people (including myself, unfortunately) just go with the standard nutsets and phillips head screws to hold their engine cowling on.  What I have found is that it's such a pain to take off that I rarely ever do.

The top cowl on my Zenith CH750 has about 20 screws in it, and the bottom cowl has another 8 or so.  When the screwdriver slips then pain gets scratched, if you over tighten any screws then the fibreglass get all crazed and holding the cowls in place by yourself is a trick all of it's own.

What this hinge system does is allows you to remove the cowls in less than 40 seconds, and it re-installing takes about 3 minutes.  The fitting is much stronger than the screws.

Please note that I always recommend that these be included in the purchase of the FWF.  They are not a stock item and freight can be expensive due to the fact that they are 1 m long.  Freight is not included in this price.
