Most people (including myself, unfortunately) just go with the standard nutsets and phillips head screws to hold their engine cowling on.  What I have found is that it’s such a pain to take off that I rarely ever do.

The top cowl on my Zenith CH750 has about 20 screws in it, and the bottom cowl has another 8 or so.  When the screwdriver slips then pain gets scratched, if you over tighten any screws then the fibreglass get all crazed and holding the cowls in place by yourself is a trick all of it’s own.

What this hinge system does is allows you to remove the cowls in less than 40 seconds, and it re-installing takes about 3 minutes.  The fitting is much stronger than the screws.

Please note that I always recommend that these be included in the purchase of the FWF.  They are not a stock item and freight can be expensive due to the fact that they are 1 m long.  Freight is not included in this price.
