701 Kit Upgrades

701 Kit Upgrades

From: $50.00

CH701 Bubble Door Option Kit

In my opinion, this should not be an option.  These amazing doors improve downward visibility, which is very handy when you are scoping out a beach landing site.  They also add some nice shoulder room.

701 Long Range Fuel Tank Option

James' note:  Again, this should not really be an option.  It's OK not to have a huge range if you are flying in NZ or the USA - Either you can't really fly that far or there's an airport every 20 miles.  If you are flying in Australia and you ever plan on selling your aircraft for a good price - then please do yourself a favour and include the Long Range Tank.

Also, when combined with either of the Viking FWF kits - you will also get another 10L of useable fuel with the included header tank.

All up, your new fuel capacity will go from 76 liters (standard; without the Viking FWF) to 106 liters (including the header tank).  The extra 30 liters is pretty close to an extra 2 hours of flight time (depending on which engine you get and how hard you run the throttle, you should expect between 15 - 20 l.p.h).

STOL CH 701 ULTIMATE Wing Tank Option Kit : 150 + Liters of fuel

Now we are just being silly.

Carry 152 liters of fuel in the wings by adding an additional two standard fuel tanks to your aircraft.  Your little CH701 will now be equipped with 4 x 38 liter wing tanks and when paired with a Viking Header Tank (included with every Viking Firewall Forward kit) you will be carrying a whopping 162 liters.

Even if you zoomed around at full noise and chewed through 20 l.p.h, you have an endurance of 8 hours.  With more real-world and conservative operation, 9 or 10 hours' flight time should be achievable.

This is actually a great option.  Not so much because it allows you to fly to Ayres Rock without a toilet break, but more because it allows you to venture to remote sites and carry all of the fuel you need for the return journey.  Accessing premium unleaded fuel is not always that easy and being able to carry loads of fuel alleviates this inconvenience somewhat.

CH701 Vortex Generators Kit

These should be on every STOL aircraft.  They're cheap, easy to install and they work - please just get them or you are short-changing yourself on the best value performance improvement option out there.  VG's give a great improvement in control and low-end safety with no downside at all.

Vortex Generators (VG's) work by inducing mini-tornados (vortex's of swirling air) in their wake.  These vortexes help to keep the airflow effective over the elevator at much lower speeds.

They do this using magic and stuff.

Electric Trim Tab Kit (Elevator)

James' note:  These are a very nice unit.  Easy to install, frees up some space in the cockpit and adds a nice touch to your day - especially when paired with a good quality control stick mounted trim switch (not included, but there are loads of options available for you to choose).

CH701 Upholstery Kit

This is a pretty basic grey coloured fabric seats.  Honestly, I recommend you spend a little extra and check out the Lemke Upholstery package instead.  The newer upholstery kits from Zenith are very good, but this basic kit lacks any excitement.

Four-Position Flaperon Lever

Replaces the standard two-position handle, adding more flaperon positions and making the handle easier to operate.

Streamline Wing Strut Option Kit

James' note:  These really do work very well to reduce the drag on your aircraft.  If you can afford it, this is a worthwhile addition to your kit.  Demonstration flights have shown a consistent 5 to 7 knot increase is airspeed.  Very handy on a slowish aircraft when you are pushing a headwind.

Skytek Center Console Kit

The Skytek center console kit comes pre-drilled to accommodate a range or switches, fuel selector, circuit breakers and your cabin heater.  Any holes that you don't use can be easily blanked out with a plastic or rubber grommet (not supplied).

It is supplied in raw aluminium.

Please purchase EITHER the Skytek or the Zenith Center Console kit - not both.

Zenith Center Console Kit

Center console option mounts below the panel; approx. 4.75″ (12 cm) wide.

It is supplied in raw aluminium.

Brilliant for covering and protecting the fuel lines, control cables and brake lines that run through the cockpit.  The console is also an excellent place to install smaller items such as your ignition key and engine switches.

21 x 6" Tundra Tire Upgrade Option

Larger Aero-Classic “Tundra” tires replace the standard tires and fit the 6-inch wheels supplied in the Finishing Kit.  Sold as a SET (2)
The price is the additional cost for two (2) larger tires for the main gear.

The outside diameter of these Tundra tires is 53cm, versus the factory standard tire size of 43cm.

Towbar Kit

These are very handy and work well.  They extend telescopically so they are compact enough to fly with if you ever want to do that.

The only problem with this option is that Zenith suggest you drill through your front strut (see photo) to insert the tow bar.

Check out the linked 'Skytek Towbar Attachment Bracket' for a cheap and easy to install option that does not need you to drill through the gear leg.  I have this on my 750 and it's brilliant.  It took me about 5 minutes to install as a retro-fit.

Skytek Zenith CH701 Tail Skid Kit

This tail skid kit is a great addition to your 750.  It doesn't matter if you fly a SD, STOL or a CRUZER - you will find this skid kit very handy.

Any time you like, you can simply push the tail down to the ground and leave your aircraft perched nose-high on the skid.  Very handy for cleaning or inspecting underneath.  It makes cleaning the top of your aircraft an absolute breeze - no more step ladders.

Did you know that with no tail protection the first thing to hit the ground is your RUDDER; not even the fuselage, but your actual rudder.  If you would prefer not to be worried about striking a control surface the next time you over cook a take off or move your aircraft then install this skid.  In colder climates this tail skid is used to protect aircraft from being dropped onto the rudder after a load of snow builds up on the horizontal stabilizer.  Even with the wings tied down this can happen.

It's a 5 minute installation with no special tools needed and all hardware supplied.  These are held in stock and ship immediately.

Cortec VpCI-373 Clear

Cortec VpCI-373 is the corrosion inhibitor that is recommended by Zenith.  It is a very nice product to use, as it is non-toxic and goes on just like PVA Glue (the white wood glue that comes in bottles).  Apply with a brush or small sponge just before final assembly and the Cortec will forever prevent any vapor or particles entering into the small gaps between your riveted parts.  Keeps out microscopic salts and other corrosive airborne particulates.

Unfortunately, it is insanely expensive and the smallest unit size is a 19 Liter drum.  I pay $980 for the drum, and this 19L drum is in concentrate form so it's enough to build about 30 aircraft.  You definitely don't need much.  Probably about 2 Liters is all you need.

I supply your Cortec in ready-to-use format with instructions and a Safety Data Sheet.  You are paying for 1 Litre and the price includes postage within Australia.

Viking Steel Bungee

If you have the newer 'puck' style of front suspension (which all new kit buyers do get as standard now) - then you probably will not need the Viking Steel Bungee.  The new Zenith puck system is a big improvement on the rubber band.

The Viking Steel Bungee was developed from the real need for something better than the older style Zenith rubber bungee suspension system.

The rubber band suspension system that many Zenith owners still fly around with has a few issues.  You don't know quite how long it will last or if it will just snap one day, it's a bastard to swap over when you need to install a new one, and it cannot be adjusted to give you a nice ride on the front wheel.

This innovative solution from Viking Aircraft uses the original front components and is so damn easy to install.  It's very clever, but also so simple when you get it in your hands. With over 800 sold, it has proven to be a simple, yet effective design.

I installed one on my 750 and have never looked back.  It is a big improvement and was a very easy job to complete.  I would say it took me about 90 minutes, and it would have been quicker if I wasn't filming it.

The price includes air-freight direct from Viking to you.  GST is not yet included in the price, that is added at the checkout.

Viking CH750 STOL / SD Nosewheel Spacer

If you are installing larger tires, operating over long grass or looking for that extra-special steering bar attachment then this nosewheel spacer is for you.

Lift your propeller tips 50mm higher and further avoid wear from long grass and reduce the risk of a propeller strike on any unseen rocks or logs that may be waiting for you - especially if you have added large tires to the main gear.  Putting Tundra tires on the back will lower the nose geometry and reduce propeller clearance.
